Golmaal Returns Pokes Fun At Rajni Kanth Starrer Sivaji

GOLMAAL had been successful largely because it was a lowly-budgeted mindless-fun-to-watch movie which no one anticipated. So, it reaped hugely at the box-office. Unfortunately, Golmaal Returns is trying to take away that low-budgeted humour that would definitely make us laugh and taking chances with high-budgeted laugh-a-thon that may or may not work. Have a glance at the cast and you would surely understand what high-budget is… Ajay Devagan, Kareena Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Anjana Sukhani, Amrita Arora, Celina Jaitley and others. I know that except Kareena kapoor and Ajay Devagan, there are no big names… but there too many names. Isn’t it?

Hmmm… still not convinced? Then how about a Rs. 6 Crore budgeted song? Yes, you are reading right. If reports are to be believed, a parody song has been choreographed by Ganesh Acharya that pokes fun at a song from Rajni Kanth starrer Sivaji. Its been shot on a lavish set in Mumbai which has over a 1000 dancers and fighters. Its grand and its action packed and that’s the idea behind including the entire cast of Golmaal Returns in the song karke.

Well, filmmaker Rohit shetty has no qualms in admitting that the song from his forthcoming film is a clear takeoff on Sivaji. Director Rohit Shetty says, “I was shooting Sunday in Hyderabad so I just thought of dropping on to the sets of Sivaji and I saw the Shankar was doing the song and I thought why cant we use it in our film, there was place for this kind of song in Golmaal so we got it.” Actor Shreyas Talpade says, “As Rohit said it’s a takeoff on Sivaji and Golmaal had the scope for such a wacky number, it was something new for me, we shot for 12 days. I’m sure people will like it , it’s one of the USP’s of the film.” Choreographer Ganesh Acharya says, “Basically the freshness in the song is that, it has a combination of dance and action, you can see different costumes, different movements, different sort of action, and we have also taken some parts of Sivaji in the film.” Actor Tusshar kapoor says, “Its something new for Bollywood to have a song so grand just like in Tamil films, it also has a story where Ajay and Arshad are fighting in the song, works with me. I hope the audiences like it too.”

INDIAN FILMDOM just hopes that it would genuinely evoke some cracking laughter and earns handsomely at the box office counter.
